The Wavelight® EX500 excimer laser system performs an ablation with the objective of maintaining a natural corneal shape. Every treatment is customized to the patient’s individual refraction and corneal curvature which means that all light rays meet in one sharp focus point. The WaveLight® EX500 has a 500 Hz repetition rate that ranks as the fastest excimer laser platform in the United States. The laser treats at a speed of approximately 1.7 seconds per diopter. Tracking at speeds 10 times faster than movements of the natural eye, the eye tracker provides exact positioning of the ablation profile to optimize treatment results.
