YAG LASER CAPSULOTOMY

A YAG capsulotomy laser is a special laser performed in the office used to improve your vision after cataract surgery.

During cataract surgery, your natural lens is replaced with a synthetic lens placed securely in a membrane (called the bag or capsule of your eye). Over time, this capsule can thicken or opacify. Patients may experience glare, haloing, and decreased vision. This process may develop within months to years following cataract surgery. During this procedure, your surgeon will aim a special laser to create an opening in the posterior capsule. This will allow light to again reach your retina, resulting in clearer vision. The procedure typically takes a few minutes to complete, and patients can return to normal activity immediately.
