MEET PETER J. UTRATA, M.D.
After more than 50 years of enriching the lives of our patients, Dr. Peter J. Utrata retired from his position with Arena Eye Surgeons in December of 2021. He is best known for his contribution in the development of the Utrata surgical instrument that nearly every cataract surgeon utilizes during a critical step in manual cataract surgery. Arena Eye Surgeon’s staff, doctors, and patients would like to thank Dr. Utrata for all his contributions in advancing eye care.

EDUCATION & TRAINING
Dr. Utrata attended college and medical school at Ohio State University. He completed his internship position in Stockton, California, at San Joaquin General Hospital, followed by Ophthalmology residency at Ohio State University. After residency, he served two years in the military at Fort Leonard Wood Army Hospital where he was Chief of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Peter Utrata has extensive experience in cataract surgery, with respect to astigmatism management and enjoys teaching young physicians. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Columbus Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Society, and the American Medical Association.
EXTRACURRICULAR INVOLVEMENT
Dr. Utrata has spoken nationally and internationally, especially in regard to intraocular lens implants, and astigmatic keratotomy. He was the first surgeon in Ohio to implant the foldable intraocular lens during cataract surgery and continues to utilize many different IOL technologies to achieve specific refractive goals for his patients.

Dr. Utrata is happily married, enjoys travel, and spending time with his 6 grandchildren.
