Am I a candidate for Lasik in Columbus, Ohio?

LASIK, or Laser in-situ keratomileusis, is a surgical procedure used to change the shape of the cornea to correct certain types of vision issues. The procedure is very effective, and is a popular choice for people who want laser surgery for personal or professional reasons. Active people love LASIK because it almost eliminates the need for contact lenses or glasses. It allows people to freely play sports and have fun. This refractive surgical procedure has many benefits and few side effects.

A Good Candidate

LASIK surgery is most effective when used to correct vision disorders like astigmatism, hyperopia (farsightedness), and myopia (Nearsightedness). The surgical team has to perform a thorough LASIK pre-operative evaluation. Once they have had a chance to look at your problem up close, they will decide if LASIK surgery will be able to improve your vision. The team of eye surgeons at ARENA EYE SURGEONS has done thousands of LASIK surgeries. They know exactly what to look for to help them to decide if LASIK surgery is right for you.

The Preparation

A few weeks prior to your scheduled LASIK surgery, you should stop wearing your contact lenses. Many types of contact lenses temporarily change the shape of the cornea and it takes a few weeks for the cornea to return to its normal shape. The cornea must return to its normal shape in order to get the best results from LASIK surgery. If you are unable to go without your contact lenses for 3 weeks to a month, then you may not be a good candidate for LASIK surgery. Still, you should contact ARENA EYE SURGEONS to see if they can offer you another option.

The Surgery

A lid speculum keeps the eyelids open and out of the way during the procedure. During LASIK surgery, a laser is used to create a small flap. Through this cornea flap an excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea according to your prescription. When the process is complete the flap is closed. You will be given eye drops to promote healing. Be sure to use it as directed. If you don’t have the discipline to do this, the LASIK procedure may not work as effectively as it could.

LASIK surgery has improved the vision of millions of people. However LASIK is not for everyone. Contact Arena Eye Surgeons for a pre-LASIK evaluation.
